At the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, BMW is ready to announce the world's open-top plug-in hybrid car, the i8 Spyder. Along with this announcement, BMW released a teaser video for the hybrid sports car, which also serves as a teaser for the facelift version of the i8 Coupe.
From the video footage, you can see some changes on the i8 which describe being in a wind tunnel. From the looks of it, it appears that the i8 Spyder carries a different design on the LED headlights, along with front and rear bumpers, as well as new wheel designs. Despite having a roof that can be opened (removed), the i8 Spyder still maintains the wing door model because the supports are attached to the A-pillar. Most likely the roof will be soft-top type.
Aside from the looks, the combination of the 1.5-liter turbo three-cylinder engine and the electric motor is said to have 10 percent more performance than the previous i8, estimated to produce 420HP from 357HP. Another update that will be coming to the i8 Spyder is a better quality interior following the latest generation of BMW's infotainment system.
